Today we had a group meeting planned to discuss pictures content for the website to go over make the articles web friendly and to on the whole go over all elements of the production.
Only myself and Kylie attended again so we had to get on with the work just the two of us after going over and completing the tasks mentioned above i continued with the designing of pages i have now fully completed 7 pages and laid the ground work for 5 more i am yet to see Helenas designs but after a meeting With Sue our tutor she has said to just continue work between myself and kylie untill we hear from our over group member. she has also suggested one journalist and designer can not physically take on the task to do the magazine and the childrens supplement so has suggested we talk of our plans for this but dont actually include it as it is far too much work for one person. although this is something i didnt want to not incorporate for the sake of the project it will mean the adults magazine will be too the quality it needs to be.
I have another production day set for the 8/5 and i will make sure by the end of this dat i will have ten pages complete and the following friday the 15th all my pages will be finished so i can solely work on my evaluation and write up .
Meeting with Kylie and Jen on Wednesday 9th April
In this meeting me and Jen met up for a whole day and went through everything to make sure there was continuity and flow throughout both out pre production and production work, which there was.
Jen gave me 15 articles that she had completed and together we decided what sections they would best fit in the website, we put a few images together with these but still have to put a large number of images along with other articles that will both be used in the website and magazine for continuity throughout. I still need to get given a few more articles and interviews from the girls which they will do when completed.
We also have got consent from an employee at body shop to give us three prizes, so we can offer one to parents, one to teenagers and one to children. We also have consent to use images from the website. We are currently brainstorming relevant questions to ask the audience which will coincide with articles in the magazine and website.
We have sent an email out to a professional nurse who will act as our Q & A expert and we are awaiting a reply.
As well as this, I have asked both the journalists as they write articles to go through and get the relevant helpline numbers against subjects they have spoke about as these will need to be included on the resource section of the website, so it is done in a professional manner.
We made sure that we both had the relevant work of each other and still have clode contact to make sure there are no gaps in our production process.
Todays meeting
In todays meeting we discussed what we had done so far. We discussed each others articles and proof read them. We also discussed design aspects for the pages and ideas for new stories. We have allocated a few articles that will be a joint production:
1. Article on healthy food available at Asda Supermarket titled “feed your family for a fiver” This will depend on the supermarket giving us permission to take photogrpahs
2. Bullying – I have done an article on Bullying and Jen has a case study that would run along side it.
3. Summer fashion for children – this again depends on what the shopiing outlets say about us taking photographs
We have arranged to meet on Tuesday at 10am to begin designing. We have already completed some pages individually but need to be together for continuity. By this time I will have :
1. Researched and written up ALL articles (approx 16 altogether)
2.Written a diary on my story compilation.
3.E-mailed some more publishers / printers for prices.
4.E-mail Jen all my work so far including photographs I have taken to accompany stories.
5. Made a list of everything I have done so far.
6. Researched cover costs – eg. How much editors / designers get paid.
7.Printed photograph permission slips.
8.Completed any other material I feel relevant.
I have recodnised that due to my problems at home I have fallen behind slightly but will be performing to a high standard from now on.
Helena
The end of the Easter period
As Jen has mentioned in the previous blog, throughout the Easter period me and her have had close contact making sure that we both know that we are following the same schedule and that we are up to date with what we need to be complete by when. We have communicated with one another via email and the phone. We are also close to completing all the pre-production work, as some of this has had to be done as we go through the production process.
As well as this, in the next meeting we have we are going to discuss with each other what the questions for the competitions should be along with other discussions. These will be posted after the meeting. After this I will produce a flash movie for the competition on the website.
As well as this, throughout the Easter period I have completed almost everything that I pledged. I have completed most of my pre production work, along with researching into third party scripts to enhance my website. I have also created a forum for the website which can be found in the link below. As well as this I have made a start on the comment form and send to a friend email. I had troubles with making a template, but have still managed to link all of my pages to one another and they work correctly. I now have most aspects ready until I receive content, such as articles, images, interviews etc to put on the website.

After the easter break i have completed my pledged 10 stories and now completed 14 i have also compiled a list of helpline numbers sorted out the competition and between myself and Kylie written out emails too those wanting to give competition prizes, Kylie and myself have picked what prizes will work best for each section of the magazine and gained access to use these images on both the website and in the magazine.
As well as this myself and Kylie have kept regular contact and pretty much wrapped up the majority of the pre-production
I have 3 interviews booked for Thursday in a fatility clinic and i have phone interviews in place for friday as long as the studio is free i have not yet been able to book the studio as the university is currently closed.
On top of this i have done my ideas book in which i have analysed a large selection of magazines looking at what and dosnt work and advert to content ratios Kylies has done this for the website and between the two of us we are going to look at what articles magazines put on their websited and why
We have a meeting arranged for 10 on Wednesday the 9th Of April and on The 10th i will start to produce my pages using the colour schemes we have discussed
Helena Ready – Pledges
By Sunday April 6th I intend to have a minimum of ten articles researched and written up, with images to accompany them.
I will have all interviews transcripted and the job roles of the team clearly defined. I will also design a minimum of five pages, that the rest of the group has approved.
Thur 13th March Meeting
We have approved the headings for the website with Kylie so she can now move to the next step with the site. I have e-mailed her the first story (a recipe article for people with diabetes) so she can implement this onto the site in alignment with the right heading.
We have all made our pledges for the 6th April, so are all clear on what needs to be done. I have e-mailed a number of health organisation’s in the hope of obtaining interviews and information for the magazine.
We have arranged to meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 11am. During tomorrows meeting we will discuss articles and material gathered so far and decide where to go next.

Fourth meeting-Thursday 13th March
As mentioned previously Jen and I have written pledges for what we aim to have completed by the end of Easter, this way we hope to be on track with our progress.
As well as this, in the meeting we discussed with each other the separate pre-production work which we are both still completing. Reasoning for discussing together what pre-production work we are completing is that we can all be sure that we are researching the same aspects in order to make both the website and magazine have clarity throughout. As professionals we are always aware of what everyone is doing so that we know the progress that is taking place.
As well as recording what we have done every meeting, we have also been communicating with one another via email throughout the weeks. This way there is more communication going on out of the meetings and every thing that we have agreed and negotiated with is recorded via email as well.
Kylie Gammans Pledge
By April 7th I hope to have all of the pre-production finalized, although some of this may still be continued as I go through the process of completing the website.
As mentioned by Jen, she hopes to have a lot of the content completed, so I aim to have the whole template of the website working which will link to the correct pages. This way when I receive the content I can hopefully put it straight into the website without any troubles
.As well as this, I will be researching into third party scripts to aid me through my progress where I hope to have other features working, such as the forums, send to a friend email and comment page.
Jen james Pledges
After todays group meeting we have each pleged what we will have finished by the week commencing April the 7th the end of the Easter break
I pledge to have finished as much of the pre-production that is possible finished and at least 10 articles/features/stories finished and sent to Kylie for the website.
As of the 7th when uni re-opens myself and Helena have said every Tuesday and Thursday we will meet from 11-3 to do the design layouts and making of the magazine we will talk to Paul to find out what lessons are going to be on and when so we can work around this.
In todays meeting Myself and Kylie both went through the finalised brief and Kylies mock up pages and talked through the competition and what we need to do next between the two of us i have given dates of when i want things done for her and what she shall include.
Myself and Helena have made our job roles clearer as to start with we where both doing bits of everything but this wouldnt be the case in a professional organisation so we are writting up and finalising our specific job role to make sure we are both on the correct track. we will start our designs asap as want to have some with us for our next arranged meeting with Sue
